i-Botics
Robotics can often replace human labour in dangerous environments. Yet robotic autonomy consistently fails in real-world dynamic or unstructured settings. Existing tele-operation systems are slow, non-immersive and imprecise. This creates a gap between technological ability and real-world needs. Robots cannot be deployed at scale, missions fail, and people remain exposed to high-risk tasks. i-Botics bridges the gap with a blend of autonomy and intuitive remote control.

The deployment challenge
Robots show promise for hazardous tasks, but autonomy often breaks down in complex, real-world conditions. When autonomous systems fail, existing tele-operation solutions offer only slow, imprecise control with limited sensory feedback. This creates a critical deployment gap: robots can’t safely replace humans in dangerous conditions, adoption remains low, and people continue to risk their lives in tasks that should be automated.
i-Botics addresses this structural challenge with a platform-agnostic, remote robotics system that enables safe, human-level operation in complex and hazardous environments. The solution delivers immersive and multi-sensory telepresence, dextrous bi-manual manipulation and hybrid autonomy. This allows seamless switching between autonomous behaviour and direct human control whenever autonomy reaches its limits.
Hybrid autonomy architecture
In conventional solutions, autonomy and tele-operation exist as separate modules. i-Botics fully integrates both. The system provides low-latency, immersive telepresence using stereo vision, spatial audio, and force and tactile feedback, combined with intuitive human-machine interfaces. When autonomous behaviour fails, human operators intervene instantly and precisely, ensuring continuity of operation.
The platform-independent design supports any robot hardware to avoid vendor lock-in and reduce adoption barriers. Critically, i-Botics captures expert tele-operation data and reuses it to continuously improve and enhance its autonomous capabilities. This creates an effective learning loop: each deployment improves autonomous performance, reliability and scalability over time.
Partnering for acceleration
i-Botics is among the first solutions to combine immersive multi-sensory telepresence, dextrous manipulation and autonomy in a single, platform-independent system with learning capabilities. The system transforms teleoperation from a last-resort workaround into a scalable capability that progressively increases autonomy.
In preparation for spin-off, i-Botics is in search of partners. These include:
- launch and pilot customers in defence and civil markets;
- channel and integration partners;
- robot OEMs across ground, air, sea and specialist systems;
- suppliers for cameras, sound, VR headsets and haptics;
- network and on-site computing partners;
- cloud, digital model and data partners; manufacturing and service partners.
I-Botics is also seeking investors and company-building partners to help test the solution in the field, deliver it at scale, and support the company’s growth.
Expertise at work
i-Botics builds on TNO’s expertise in robotics, human-machine interaction, XR interfaces, sensing, real-time control, and system integration. We use strong Test, Evaluation, Validation, and Verification (TEVV) methods to test our systems in real-world environments. This helps us learn fast and improve quickly. Through continuous testing and field use, we have moved from early research to systems that are ready for real deployment. The technology is now mature enough to be spun out into a company.

Impact for industry
Security, critical infrastructure, offshore, industrial, and defence sectors benefit most from i-Botics. These are environments where robots must operate in dangerous, remote, or hard-to-reach locations. The technology allows robots to take over high-risk tasks, reducing or even eliminating the need for people to be exposed to danger or to be physically present in remote areas.
The impact is clear: fewer people exposed to dangerous situations, fewer accidents, and safer, more effective execution of mission-critical tasks. Because i-Botics is platform-agnostic and continuously improves through learning, it offers a reliable and scalable alternative to vendor-locked or experimental solutions.
